GREEN WALLS

Green Walls, Living Walls, or Vertical Gardens, are vertical panels of plants grown on structures that can be freestanding or attached to a wall. These can be found on exteriors or interiors of buildings, and can range in size from just a few square feet to entire walls. 

They differ from green façades which are rooted in the ground. The plants in a green wall root in a structural support which is fastened to the wall itself and receive water and nutrients from within the vertical support and not the ground. 

Today, because of rapid urbanisation and deforestation there is considerable increase in air pollution levels and heat transfer. In urban cities, this effect is extreme because of lack of vegetation and space constraints. In such scenario, Green Walls are the best alternative as they don’t take up floor space and purifies air, reduces air temperature and also helps in protecting urban biodiversity. Research have proven that vegetation can bring out 40-60% reduction in air pollution levels on city roads too.

Green Walls when placed indoors has a calming & soothing effect on mind and nervous systems. This has been proven that a view of greenery reduces stress, anxiety and helps one become more creative, happy & productive. This is called Biophilic Effect.
