When Land Loses Its Natural Function

 

Land can become degraded through erosion, vegetation loss, soil depletion, invasive species, industrial disturbance, mining and prolonged neglect.


But degradation is not simply a loss of trees. It is a loss of the natural systems that allow land to support vegetation, water, soil organisms and biodiversity.


Our approach focuses on rebuilding these underlying functions so that the landscape can progressively recover and become more resilient.

A landscape may look green and still remain ecologically weak. A restored landscape is not defined by the number of trees planted. It is defined by whether the land begins to function again. True restoration considers the relationships between soil, vegetation, water and biodiversity.

Our Approach

Restoration Begins With Understanding the Land

Every landscape has different soil conditions, terrain, water movement, vegetation and ecological potential. We therefore develop restoration interventions according to the condition of the site rather than applying a one-size-fits-all plantation model.

 Understanding the site's land use history, terrain, soil condition, existing vegetation, hydrology, degradation patterns and ecological characteristics. 

Plan ⟶

  Assessing the ecological condition of the site to identify constraints, restoration priorities and opportunities for natural recovery. 

Select ⟶

  Identifying appropriate native species and plant communities based on local ecology, soil, climate, habitat requirements and the desired restoration trajectory. 

Restore ⟶

  Preparing the land and implementing interventions such as soil improvement, erosion control, water management, native planting and habitat creation as required.  

Establish ⟶

 Support vegetation and ecological recovery during the critical establishment phase. 

Monitor

 Tracking vegetation establishment, biodiversity and site recovery, and refining interventions where necessary.
